22 Months!

It's been a long time! And so much has taken place over the past 4 months. So I'll just recap the big things.

Owen is well on his way to celebrating his 2nd birthday!  I'm trying to figure out what to do for his birthday party.  I CAN NOT believe he's almost two! Wow, these past two years with him have flown by. I can't remember my life without him, nor would I ever want to. It feels as If I've always known and loved him...that's a Mama's love I guess.

Most of you know we moved in September and are renting out our old house. I miss our little house at times. It was my first home...Owen had his first everything there and it will forever be a special place in my heart. We planted a dogwood tree in the font yard right after he was born. Now that we aren't there to watch it grow each season, I bet it will be shocking to see it jump up. Our new tenants are nice and so far have been easy to work with. I can't believe James and I are Landlords! That is one title I never imagined myself to have.

We are pretty much settled into "our new place." It's not a new home, built in 1968, just new to us. It has never been remolded so it yells 1968 pretty loudly. But slowly we are making it our own. We haven't started any major projects. We're trying to live here for awhile to figure out exactly what order we should start tackling projects (knocking down walls). The good news is, we're not going anywhere, any time soon. I told James this is the last move we make before we land ourselves in a retirement community some place warm. Lol I'll take some photos and post them. Just know it's a work in progress.

We are very happy with the move/new location! We love the area and our neighbors are all very nice and less intrusive. Owen has a good school to go to, when the time comes. So it's been a great change. Just lots of work ahead of us!

Owen is talking really well. Not quite full sentences yet, but doing well with 2 and 3 words together. He repeats most anything so we have to be on our best behavior. I love listening to him say new words. They come out so cute! And I crack up when he puts  an (s) on words even when he isn't referring to possession of. I love it when he yells out, Yay Mama! It's so random and I love it. :)

Our other big news is...we have a BABY on the way! GULP! Due the end of May. I haven't fully processed this yet. And I think I'm busy now. Lol!

Owen keeps me so busy that I hardly have time to think about a new baby. I was so good to keep a pregnancy journal with Owen and this time I've had a hard time just remembering how many weeks a long I am...I think I'm nearly 16. My OB wanted to move me up by a week since the baby was measuring a week and two days large. So when I go back in two weeks I'll find out exactly where I am. Lol! This would have driven me crazy when pregnant with Owen. I tracked each detail. This time, I am more laid back and feel either way 15 or 16 weeks, I'm still having a baby. A week doesn't make much of a difference. I'm not really showing yet just looking plump. Lol.  I think I feel bigger than I look!

My Granny bought me a new camera for Christmas and I can't wait for it to get here! I have been so bad about taking pictures since I got my cell phone.  Maybe I can do a better job at blogging. I know she probably bought that camera so I would be better at posting pictures for her ;)  No excuses Granny!

We fly out this week to California to visit Aidan, Anjoli and Mike. And this time James is coming with me. I can't wait to see them! It's been over a year. Last time I held Aidan he was only a few months old and so tiny. I've been looking forward to this visit all year and now it's finally here! We are going to get Christmas pictures taken with the boys.... Anjoli and I have been friends for 18 years!  Amazing! And I'm getting old :) Just wish she were closer, I miss her!

Owen is really growing into a little boy and he's still just as curious as ever, strong willed like his Mama, and likes to work hard like his Daddy with his tools. I'd say he's a great mix of James and I, but I'd be lying.  He's his father 100%, but was lucky enough to inherit my stubbornness. :) Poor thing. I say daily we should have named him James.

Here are some things that Owen is up to at 22 Months:
  • Sitting in a booster chair
  • sleeps in a toddler bed
  • finally likes to get his teeth brushed
  • has used his potty a few times and is really excited about it (now I just need to get on board)
  • wares size 2T (3T in PJS - his feet are so big!)
  • wares size 8 wide shoe
  • weighs 27lbs
  • loves to get his hair cut at the barber with Daddy
  • wants to do anything he sees us do (working, cooking, cleaning, typing on the computer)
  • ever growing vocabulary
  • climbs on everything (tables, chairs, tv stand, you name it)
  • likes to announce he's pooped
  • is really into: Thomas the train, barney, and Mickey Mouse right now
  • loves trucks, we have a large collection (dozers, dumpers and diggers)
  • Is very active and on any given day he runs through the house yelling "im wunning" or "im working"
  • His R and L come out as (W) so cute (wabbit, whyla is Lyla)
  • He knows he will be 2 on his birthday, and can say Happy Birthday!
  • I ask him if he wants a baby brother or sister and he replies each time with, SISTER!
  • he knows the baby is in my tummy. he thinks it's at the belly button and likes to give it kisses.
  • Owen will start a co-op preschool Jan. 9th, 2 days a week and Mommy gets to help teach the classes :) And hope I don't make any of the kids cry.
Here are pictures from the past few months. Enjoy! And Happy Holidays to Everyone!

I should explain the charcoal mouth photo. Owen ate a pill that I could not identify so he spent half a day in the ER drinking a charcoal drink to flush out any toxins.  A few days later I found out he had eaten an over the counter pill for acid reflux. So he was just fine! What a scare he gave me! Never a dull moment when you have little ones.

Owen is 18 Months!

Where in the world has the time gone?  This year has passed very quickly!  On Friday Owen turned 18months.  I nearly cried on the way home from his Well Check-Up.  He was in the back seat doing his signs to the Signing Time CD.  I just couldn't believe how big he was and how far he's come, developmentally in the past month.  From 17-18 months he's really matured and his communication skills are really growing.  In many ways it's getting easier because we can understand each other now.  But with that being said, his tantrums have increased too.  Now he really understands what NO means and he really doesn't like it.  When he's upset or angry I totally see myself in Owen.  He makes the same facial expressions and he's perfected his unhappy face this past month.  As sad as it is to see him unhappy, part of me wants to laugh.  You know how dramatic little ones can be over the smallest situations.  Owen looks more and more like James each day that passes, but when he smiles or pouts I see myself. Lol!  Not sure if this is good, but it's truly the only time I see my DNA in him.

I haven't gotten too many pictures this month, but the ones I did get really show how active and curious he is.  I can't turn my back on him for a second!  If he's quiet and not responding to his name, I go running! He is ALWAYS getting into something or climbing on top of furniture and even the kitchen table!  No surface is safe and out of reach at this point!  He even knows how to remove the child locks on the bathroom cabinets and he can now slip his hand into the drawers with child locks and pull things out.  I was on the phone the other day and he opened the bathroom door, turned on the bath water, and climbed in the tub with all his clothes and shoes on! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him.  He was splashing and swimming like he was in the pool!  So looks like we will be putting child safety locks on all doors!

I took a 6hr CPR course on Saturday.  It was long and intense, but I feel so much better after practicing.  Very surreal having to do CPR and chocking techniques on a baby doll.  Made my skin crawl! And apparently I was hitting the baby too hard.  I was called out in front of the whole class.  The instructor said, Mam not so hard! We all laughed!  I was thinking.... if this was Owen or another baby, I need to get the feel for smacking a baby to get and object unclogged from their airway. So I was pounding that baby doll pretty hard. I pray I'll never use any of the techniques.

Owen is a lot of fun these days! He says Uh-Oh all the time.  If I drop something he says, Uh-Oh Mama, Uh-oh! I took him in the grocery the other day on my hip.  We were running in quickly.  He kept saying Uh-oh, Uh-oh.  I was in a hurry and ignored him.  I thought he was trying to be funny.  When we got back to the car he was missing a shoes!  I said, Owen where is your shoes?  He looked at me and smiled back, Uh-Oh Mama!  I started laughing.  Ok, so you were really trying to tell me something important.  I had to back track and find his shoes.  He thought it was such fun!  When I found his shoe he started clapping for me.  It was really a fun moment!  I was even running late, but I made sure to enjoy the hunt and laughter that we shared.  These are the moments that pass so quickly and if I'm not careful I can forget to see the humor and innocence.  I'm sure there are many more stories like this from the past month, but these are my favorites.

I have really enjoyed watching his growth from 15-18 months.  It's just amazing!  What a big difference 3 months can make.  I can't believe Owen will be going to pre-school soon.  I know he will really enjoy himself.  He loves being around other children.  And I know it will be very bittersweet for me.  I'll appreciate the time apart, but it's a reminder that he needs me less and less each day.  Oh well, better get accustomed to this feeling.

Here are Owen's stats for his 18 Month visit:

Height: 34 1/2 inches 97% (he's still tall)
Weight: 25lbs. 48% (didn't gain any weight this past month)
Head: 18 3/4 50%

I told Owen the other day he was dirty.  He started wiggling his hand under his chin.  I said, that's not the sign for dirty.  I really had no idea what it was.  So i pulled out the flash cards and sure enough the sign for dirty is wiggling your hand under your chin.  I was shocked!  Ok, so it only too 18 months for my son to be smarter than me. Lol!  James said, don't underestimate him! Scary!

Hope you enjoy these pictures! They really capture his personality!

Notice how dirty Owen is in all of these pictures!  He's a very messy little boy!

At the Park!

Last Saturday night the weather was nice and I didn't feel like cooking so we took Owen over to the Rio for an early dinner and play time at the park.  We had Mexican food and ice cream for dessert.  It was a nice family night out just the three of us.  Owen loved playing on the play ground with all the other kids.  It was great to have James there so I could get some action shots of him.  Two hands is so much better than one at the park theses days!  Owen loves going up the slide.  I had a little kid run over to me and say very sternly, Hey, he's going up the wrong way.  He's not following the play ground rules!  I looked around and there were no rules posted....I'm assuming this is something his Mother tells him not to do.  He was being the police!  I just said, OK.  And kept on going....Nothing like being bossed by a five year old. Hope you enjoy the pictures!
